Important Reasons to Visit an Urgent Care

urgent care St. Augustine , FL

At some point, you will probably need to seek urgent care for an illness or injury. Emergency rooms can provide helpful care for a variety of health conditions and ailments. You never plan on getting sick or hurt, but you know these occasions will arise. It is nice to know you have a place you can turn to during inconvenient times.

Choosing where to go

Some people struggle to decide which type of care and treatment to receive on different occasions. Individuals and families generally choose to go to the emergency department at a hospital, to a freestanding emergency department or to the primary care physician’s office. The emergency room is most often for life-threatening situations such as severe bleeding, persistent chest pain, choking or loss of limb. People should go to their family doctor’s office for routine checkups or for moderate issues during regular business hours. The ER may also be the place to choose when the primary care doctor may not be available.

Open 24/7, 365

Most primary care physicians will close their offices on the weekends and holidays. These places usually close in the late afternoon or early evening as well. Some places may have more extended hours to accommodate a family’s needs. People can ordinarily expect some doctor’s offices to be open seven days a week until 9 or 10 in the evening. If a matter is not serious enough or if the patient cannot wait until morning, urgent care at the ER is a wise option. These facilities never close.

Get urgent care for broken bones

Slips and falls, sports injuries and bike or car accidents can cause fractures of the arm, leg, foot or other areas of the body. These incidents can cause significant discomfort and pain. Urgent care facility at the emergency room does not require an appointment, so the patient can walk in and get medical attention within an hour or less. These places are equipped to take X-rays, set the break and treat it with a cast. Patients can also get their cast off here and do any follow-up work.

Nagging illnesses

Common sicknesses such as ear infections, strep throat, sinus infections or the flu can stick around for several days or even weeks. Patients should feel comfortable stopping by the emergency room for urgent care to diagnose and treat these conditions. The doctor will check the patient’s vital signs, ask questions about the symptom and provide appropriate treatment such as an antibiotic.

Close by

Another important reason to come to a full-service emergency room for urgent care is that the facility may be closer to the person. If the individual is away from home for any reason, chances are good that an urgent care office is nearby, while the primary care physician may be inconveniently out of immediate reach. It is always good to check what insurance plans the ER takes.

Helping you feel well again

An emergency room has the tools and resources you need for urgent care. Here, you can get the right help to overcome many of life’s troubling conditions. Do not hesitate to go to a facility near you to get a diagnosis and treatment.
