Sometimes a person may be faced with an injury or illness, but an appointment with their general doctor could be a few days or more away. However, a patient may be suffering from something that does not warrant a trip to the emergency room. In these cases, it is an optimal time to visit an urgent…
Should I Visit Urgent Care for a Bladder Infection?
For anyone who has had a urinary tract infection (UTI), also called a bladder infection, they know that the pain can be very uncomfortable. It is the second most common infection that individuals get, and women are 10 times more likely to have them than men. Although a person can contact their general doctor for the issue, another great option is to visit an urgent care for dealing with a bladder infection. This can be a faster alternative than having to wait for an appointment with a person’s doctor.
In this article, we are also going to look at some interesting information about bladder infections (UTIs) and how an urgent care can be a great place to get the issue resolved.
Sex can cause bladder infections, but it is not the only possible cause
A bladder infection can occur when bacteria enter the urinary tract and make their way to the bladder, causing issues to arise. For women, their urethra is much shorter than a male's, and they are more likely to get the infection. However, it is not the only reason that a bladder infection can occur. They can also arise from:
- Constipation or diarrhea
- Kidney stones
- Hygiene products
- Birth control
Irritation does not immediately indicate a bladder infection (UTI)
For someone who has had a bladder infection before they will know the symptoms and be reasonably sure if it is a UTI or not. However, it does not automatically mean there is a bladder infection if there is an irritation. One of the most common symptoms of a UTI is the continual urge to urinate, yet very little urine comes out when going to the bathroom. Alternatively, any urine that passes causes an extreme burning sensation. The urine can also smell bad or be discolored.
Visit an urgent care for your bladder infection
Of course, it is very common for someone to want to visit their OB/GYN or general doctor because they trust them and know that they will receive proper treatment at their office. This is a good sign that someone has a skilled medical team that they trust. However, with time constraints and getting an appointment with a person's general doctor sometimes, it could be a few days or over a week before they can get treatment. In these circumstances visiting an urgent care could be a great alternative that gets someone the relief they need promptly.
Whenever someone is looking to get quick care for a health issue, they must decide between visiting an emergency room or urgent care. Since emergency rooms are really for life-threatening problems, an urgent care is the best option.
